Rage against the X-Factor Christmas machine
Aaaahh, no better song to get you into a holly jolly Christmas mood than Killing in the name of by Rage Against The Machine.
Wait.
What?!
Earlier this week, a Facebook campaign called Rage Factor initiated its attempt to make the 1992 debut single by the American alternative rock band the best-selling hit in the United Kingdom this Christmas. And it’s working. The tirade song, of which the uncensored version contains the word “fuck” seventeen times, is already number one and competing directly with ─hence the name of the campaign─ the winner of The X Factor 2009 in the UK, Joe McElderry.
Sir Paul McCartney thinks it’s “funny”, Simon Cowell calls it “bullying”. Whatever you call it, it’s a proof than you can fight the music business and destroy monopolies using social media. And I bet RATM isn’t complaining about becoming a Christma$ hit in the UK either.
