According to Michael Arrington, Facebook is preparing to compete with webmail giants like Gmail, (Windows Live) Hotmail andYahoo by completely rewriting its messaging feature. Makes sense, because when you think of it, it’s a superfluous step to receive an e-mail that you’ve received a message.
