Mad Men Yourself

If you’re a hardcore Maddict, you’ll have heard of Mad Men Yourself already, but for everyone else we’d like to point to this web-based application that allows you to create an avatar or Facebook profile picture in a true sixties vintage illustration style (courtesy of comedian, writer, filmmaker, and freelance illustrator Dyna Moe). The Mad Men Yourself website was launched during the summer of 2009 to promote the beginning of the 3rd season of Mad Men, a critically-acclaimed, American TV-series about a fictional advertising agency on Madison Avenue, New York, called Sterling Cooper.

But even if you don’t know or don’t like the show, it’s still fun to create your retro alter ego wearing smooth 60s suits or skirts and accessories. You can save the result as an avatar and then upload it manually to Facebook, or save it for use as your desktop wallpaper, Twitter avatar or iPhone background.

UPDATE: In honor of the start of the 4th season of the succesful series, they have added new clothes, accessories and backdrops to the Mad Men Yourself site. To our pleasant surprise, even Joan’s red accordion is available to dress up your avatar.

Here’s a short demo video of how the avatar creator works, made by Jeremy W. Kemp:
