Sabotage Yourself

Oooh yeah! The Beastie Boys have remastered my all-time favorite hip hop album, Ill Communication, adding 12 bonus B-sides and rarities. Along with the reissue comes the Sabotage Yourself tool on their website, which allows you to become a fictional character similar to the cops in the acclaimed “Sabotage” music video directed by Spike Jonze. The video is a parody of 70s television series like Hawaii Five-0, The Streets of San Francisco, and Starsky and Hutch, and the Beastie Boys played the following characters:

  • Sir Stewart Wallace guest-starring as himself (played by MCA)
  • Nathan Wind as Cochese (also played by MCA)
  • Vic Colfari as Bobby, “The Rookie” (played by Ad-Rock)
  • Alasondro Alegré as “The Chief” (played by Mike D)
  • Fred Kelly as Bunny (played by DJ Hurricane)

With the Sabotage Yourself tool, you can upload your photo or take a snapshot with your webcam, then add 70s sun glasses and a moustache to your portrait. Finally, you can add Sabotage-like title credits and generate (or invent) your funny cop name. The resulting image, which is also usable as a Facebook profile picture, can be downloaded or immediately posted to your Facebook profile (“I’ve been Sabotaged!”). The results looks something like this:
