Facebook location updates coming

If you’re unsatisfied with just sharing what you had for lunch and what song is currently stuck in your head, you’ll be happy to know that your Facebook status updates will soon be expanded with an extra attribute. Confirming the previously rumored check-in feature, the New York Times has learned from anonymous sources that Facebook will take the wraps off a new location-based feature in late April 2010. The arrival of the location sharing on Facebook is no surprise as the privacy policy update last November included the following:

When you share your location with others or add a location to something you post, we treat that like any other content you post.

To protect from Big Brother’s prying eyes, the user will have to explicitly opt-in to use the location feature. More details as soon as we get them!
