Oreo Versus Lady Gaga In Guinness World Record Attempt For Most Likes

Oreo, the self-proclaimed “world’s favorite cookie” wants to validate its tagline by setting an official Guinness World Record for the most “Likes” on Facebook within 24 hours. And while the Facebook event has less than 3000 confirmed attendees, the uploaded picture of an Oreo cookie shaped as the Like icon already managed to get over 10,000 in less than 15 minutes:
Over 16 million people already like Oreo’s Facebook page, so there’s no doubt the goal of at least 50,000 likes will be reached within a day (9 AM Eastern Time on February 16th), if not much sooner. We’re guessing within two or three hours. It would be even more impressive should the post hit 84,000 likes, which is slightly more than the record 83,568 likes on a “thank you” note posted by Lady Gaga back in November. Of course, the pop singer’s post was no official attempt supervised by the world famous “authority on record- breaking achievement” and the likes could’ve been accumulated over time. But an Oreo cookie trumping Lady Gaga, that’s like an onion ring beating Justin Bieber: definitely good for Oreo’s PR.
UPDATE: They’ve reached +50,000 in about four hours.
By the way, if you’re expecting a free cookie for your participance, you’re out of luck. And your name won’t be published in the next edition of The Guinness Book of World Records either. But hey it’s fun, and takes just a second of your time.
