“friends are fans” notification hacked?

I was just notified by one of our readers that his notifications under “People you might know” appear messed up. Instead of just saying how many friends are a fan of the suggested pages, Chris’s notifications read (and excuse me the offensive language):

x friends are double niggers are fans

are double niggers are fans

One of his friends reported a similar problem, with the message reading:

x friends are weirdos are fans.

Either somebody has managed to hack the notification, or a prank virus is doing this locally. We’re investigating the matter and will keep you posted! If you’re seeing something similar, please share your experience in the comments.

And in case you hadn’t noticed, Facebook indeed started to suggest potentially interesting pages just like they do with possible friends. The “People you might know” header will change to a more general “Suggestions”.

UPDATE: It appears only those with their primary language set to “English (UK)” are affected. A bug in the Translations application, perhaps?
