Are your friends really your friends?

The average person on Facebook has 130 friends, but most of them aren’t really friends at all. This theory is what Rosa Salazar, a 24-year-old comedian from Brooklyn, will be investigating in a video campaign promoting Microsoft’s Kin phone. The Kin is a touch-screen mobile device for “people who are actively navigating their social lives.” It integrates Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Windows Live and puts your closest friends’ updates on top thanks to a feature called The Loop.

In a the online and TV campaign called “The Social Media Sociologist,” Rosa is followed by a camera crew while she travels across the U.S. to meet her 824 friends in person. Her first encounter is with Matty Goldberg, her Facebook Chat stalker living in Los Angeles. Below you’ll find a video teaser, but you can follow her visits soon at Facebook.com/KIN.
