Poll spam silenced by Facebook

Seems like Facebook agreed with our report yesterday on the spam generated by the Poll application and decided to step in by deleting all public polls it published to profiles and pages. This is bad news for its developer, but the huge amount of unintentional wall posts was really an annoyance to both users of the application and users of Facebook in general.

The developer of Poll published the following to the application page in response to Facebook’s move:

Facebook didn’t like the new features we put in and removed all your wall posts. We are discussing options that would work well for you but not upset Facebook. I will post an update once we come to a good conclusion. (…) Facebook said that we were publishing ‘excessive’ amount of polls on users behalf. They removed all previously published stories and temporarily disabled publishing to the wall/profiles. That is why you can not publish the poll to profile currently :(

UPDATE (February 19th 2010): Uh-oh, poll spam has returned! Facebook brought it back.
