There’s a new Facebook World Record and this time it’s for the most new Likes for a Page in 24 hours. The page that got so much love in one day is popular snack brand and division of PepsiCo, Frito-Lay.
Created in December 2010, the brand’s page grew to nearly 50,000 fans in just four months, but a massive campaign that launched on April 11th caused the Guinness World Record-setting surge of 1,571,161 fans in a single day. Thanks to the campaign, the page is still growing at a much faster rate than before and likely to hit 2 million in a few days.
Key campaign elements included: a replica Flavor Kitchen created in Times Square with live cooking demonstrations streamed to the Frito-Lay Facebook page; a sweepstakes on the Frito-Lay Facebook page that gave consumers the chance to win some of the same premium Electrolux appliances that were used by the Frito-Lay chefs in the Times Square Flavor Kitchen; targeted media on Facebook; a sponsored integration in Zynga’s FarmVille that gave FarmVille players the chance to harvest sponsored-in game crops for the chance to earn exclusive virtual goods; and, the official launch of a series of online cooking webisodes available on the Frito-Lay Facebook page and featuring the Flavor Kitchen team. To celebrate, the company will be giving away 24,000 free bags of chips on their Facebook page tomorrow at 2 PM Central Time.
And for the time being, there’s no word from rapper Lil Wayne about stealing this fresh record. Yet.
