Facebook & Teachers: Should You Friend Your Students? [Infographic]

Masters in Teaching has published an infographic that draws attention to a few facts about student-teacher interactions on Facebook. Labeled Should You Friend Your Students, the infographic doesn’t give you an explicit answer to this very question, but the highlighted statistics and example “Facebook offenses” by teachers serve as a warning that you shouldn’t become too close with students on the social network:

  • 17% of teachers experienced cyberbullying in 2010, an increase of 2% compared to last year
  • 28% of teachers described receiving unwelcome text messages from students
  • 10% of US and 21% global FB users are in high school
  • In the past 6 months, 3 US teachers have been fired for having inappropriate dialogue with students on the social network.
