Facebook penguin emoticon

An American politician called Joe Moore once said: “It’s practically impossible to look at a penguin and feel angry”. So maybe that’s why Facebook this month added a cute penguin emoticon to the existing arsenal of Facebook Chat emoticons, to compensate for the aggressive shark emoticon added back in May. Or maybe the Facebook engineers are big fans of the Linux operating system and its penguin mascot, Tux?

Here are the keyboard shortcut codes for the penguin and shark emoticons in Facebook Chat:

Facebook Penguin Emoticon               =               <(“)

Facebook Shark Emoticon               =               (^^^)

Penguin facts you probably already know (or learned from watching Happy Feet):

  • Penguins are birds.
  • Penguins don’t use their wings to fly, but to swim.
  • Penguin is derived from Welsh terms “pen”, meaning head and “gwyn”, meaning white.
  • Penguins mate for life.
  • Penguin species have been around for approximately 40 million years.
  • Penguins lay eggs.

Are you going to use the new penguin emoticon in Facebook Chat? If so, can you imagine a few scenarios where a cute, little penguin would come in handy?
