It’s been a while since our last Status Saturday but any random Saturday is a good day for its return, right? Last year, we gave you a bunch of status updates inspired by hip hop, but today’s statuses are about any musical genre or just music in general.

You’ll only get this one if you know the Spanish-born French singer Manu Chao and a bit of Spanish, but here’s a screenshot of a fake Manu Chao status update we thought was clever. If you listen to the song below, you’ll see that Manu Chao likes A LOT.

Earlier this week, Kanye West stopped by the Facebook HQ in Palo Alto, California, to offer a preview of some brand new songs on his upcoming album (presumably called “Good Ass Job”). He performed the raps a capella while standing on a table in front of tons of Facebook employees.

David Ippolito, better known to countless tourists and New Yorkers as That Guitar Man from Central Park, has recently debuted “The Facebook Song”. Subtitled “What the f%#k is FarmVille!?”, the NYC-based singer-songwriter brings up all the mundane things that people tend to share on the social network, only to conclude with the very catchy chorus that “Facebook is a stupid idiot”

Parents on Facebook are such a widespread PITA it served as a source of inspiration for yet another song titled “My mom’s on Facebook”, following The Outside Joke’s pop song from a few months ago. This second version comes from an LA-based comedy group going by the name of Back of the Class and recorded an over the top hair metal anthem about the dreaded subject.

A recently launched Facebook application called What was number one when you were born? allows you to find out just that. Just enter your day of birth (yes ladies, it requires day, month and year) and the application returns the artist and title of the record that was the number 1 single that day.

Are you feelin’ gangsta today? Then this selection of 20 cool status updates based on the lyrics of both popular and more undeground hip hop songs will do the trick. I’ve added the artist between parenthesis after each line, but it’s up to you if you credit him or let your Facebook friends guess where you got it from.
