Facebook’s Quick Information Tooltip

We’re not sure how long this has been around for, but we noticed a handy, brief information pop-up that appears when you hover your mouse over a profile name for more than a second. For personal profiles, the tooltip will show you how many friends you have in common as well as a link to send a private message, and an optional add as a friend link (it will not show anything for private profiles). For pages, it’ll quickly show the number of likes, which of your friends are among them, and a like button if applicable. For events, you can instantly RSVP “Yes”, “No” or “Maybe” from within the tooltip, and for groups the pop-up will show the number of membes and an instant “Join this Group” button.

The pop-up’s profile pictures aren’t always cropped properly and we wish it would also show photo thumbnails for updates like “[Name] commented on [name]’s photo”. But these gripes put aside, the mouseover tooltip will definitely save you a click or two when exploring your social network.

Do you like the tooltip? And is it showing in your browser?
