Targetable status updates coming to personal profiles

As you may have noticed, Facebook yesterday enabled an option for Page owners to target their stream updates based on their fans’ language and location. A new “people” icon left of the Share button allows brand, product or business owners to limit who will see the stories after they’re published. Facebook gives the example of Starbucks who ─with over 5 million Facebook fans across the world— may want to talk about a new drink that’s only available in the U.K.
While this feature is live for Page admins to tailor their communication towards their fans, we’ve noticed it on one of our regular Facebook account profiles as well. Although not language or location-based, Facebook users are given the choice to target specific status updates, videos, photos, links and so on, to Everyone, Friends and networks, Friends of friends, Only friends, or a Customized privacy setting excluding it from certain groups, networks, lists and/or individual users. Here’s a screenshot of an uploaded photo visible only to friends. Other users, like friends of friends, will never see the image anywhere on Facebook.
It is uncertain when this feature will go live for personal profiles, but Facebook is clearly testing it out in the wild.
