I Like It On… Status Updates

Have you noticed many female Facebook friends ─including your mom─ posting statuses in the vein of “I like it on the couch“, “I like it on the floor“, “I like it on the kitchen counter” or even “I like it on a grand piano” and are you wondering what they mean by that? Well, it’s not what you think (cough*pervert*cough). The cryptic status updates are just telling you where these women prefer to… leave their purse.

I like it on Facebook Status Updates

The trend to post “I like it [insert location here]” status updates first went viral on Facebook back in May 2010, but has been revived a few days ago to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Month 2010, exactly like the bra color status updates that confused many a Facebook user last year in October.

Now you’re probably wondering how a sexually suggestive status update trend can cause awareness for breast cancer and why they’re not simply sharing a link to a website about the subject. Well, the quirky grassroots meme will without doubt attract plenty of media attention and get covered in the news around the world, which will hopefully set off a dialogue about Breast Cancer Awareness Month. See, it’s effective, but in an indirect manner.

So, where do you like it?

UPDATE: In Belgium and the Netherlands, people have translated this into “heeft het graag” and “ik heb het graag” status updates. Have you seen this meme reappear in any other languages? Let us know in the comments!
