Giving up Facebook for Lent, Facebook Fast for Lent, No Facebook for lent, Give up Facebook for Lent,… There are hundreds Facebook groups encouraging users to abstain from the site for the 40 days of Lent. The same rage occurred among college students last year. In 2009, adults seem to be into it as well.

Manatee County Sheriff’s officers say a 19-year-old man snatched a Starbucks customer’s laptop after being told he could not use it to check his Facebook account. According to officers, Corey Kinney then grabbed the customer’s laptop and ran out of the coffee shop, located in an outlet mall.

Stijn is a young musician from Belgium who plays around with vintage synths and drum computers to create ultra funky songs with Prince-like juicy lyrics on the top. In his most recent single, called Password, he puts a kinky twist to the ongoing social web revolution by making a humorous play on concepts like “status” and “virtual gifts”…

It’s been a while since we posted another “Tag your friends” picture, so let’s conclude this week with another one of these popular Facebook posters. No cartoon characters in this picture, but a collage of smileys (or emoticons) instead. You know, those yellow things you’ve seen on forums and instant messaging software?

We don’t have time to read real books any more! We read Facebook.
Nowadays, we plough through a never-ending “News Feed” and an unstoppable train of “Status Updates”. Reading them all day long. But we kinda enjoy it, right?

The CD Cover Meme has been around for ages… literally! I think it started on Flickr a few years ago, and it has recently made the jump to the Facebook crowd. It’s quite a different meme than your average notes and surveys, because it’s based on luck (the random stuff) and it requires a bit of creativity too (you have to actually design your own album cover).

Facebook is offering a preview of the homepage redesign expected to go live next week. The new design will give users the ability to easily feed the news stream by friend type and network, and gives users a much easier way to post links, photos and videos. As an alternative to the overload of cartoon characters, a new category of “Tag your friends” pictures has emerged featuring special alphabets or fonts. The most interesting one I’ve seen so far is a collage called “Corporate Alphabet” which was created back in 2004 by Dutch designers Amoud van den Heuval and Koert van Mensvoort.

Chances are high you’ve seen a bunch of round and green cartoon characters pass by in your Facebook news feed. Yes, it’s another one of those collage pictures you can tag your friends in, and the cute characters at your service are called The Poddington Peas.

There are currently two South Park character maps doing rounds on Facebook as part of the “Tag your friends” meme. None of them actually feature any South Park stars such as Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, Kyle Broflovski, Kenny McCormick or Chef. Instead, these South Park-style characters are probably created from scratch with a tool like the South Park Studio.
