The Segway PT is a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle invented by Dean Kamen. The name “Segway” is a homophone of “segue” (a smooth transition, literally Italian for “follows”) while “PT” denotes personal transporter.

Although it was first unveiled in December 2001, the vehicle recently made it into the headlines again because the company’s new multi-millionaire owner, Jimi Heselden, died after falling off a river cliff while riding… a Segway. Talking about bad PR!
